From The Chairman’s Desk

When you come and visit any Vishwajyot school the first thing you will notice is the boundless energy of its students, bold and confident these kids will take you around their school and show you why it is a wonderful place. You will see classrooms where the learning material is not restricted to the board but flows into the walls and floors. You will see teachers and students locked in lively debate and more interestingly not in the class at all but bent over peering at a cocoon in the garden and watching it transform into a butterfly. While the newspapers boast about how Vishwajyot produces academic successes every year you will find that learning is free from the drugedry that we have come to associate with it. Ask the children their secret and they will tell you that it is simple, they have fallen in love with learning. This is the vision behind our Vishwajyot schools and I will invite you to come visit us to experience it for yourself.

PS- This trust exists because of and is guided by the inspiration of two amazing women.

Shevantabai Dhumal, my mother, who was functionally literate but wanted me to follow the footsteps of my father. He had pioneered setting up schools in villages through the “Rayat Shikshan Sanstha” in Ahmednagar District immediately after independence. She gave us the seed capital to start by selling off her land and instructing me to ensure that the money is used to educate girls. It is also based on her inspiration that we have started schools not just in Mumbai but in rural Maharashtra.

The second is a born teacher, a tireless innovator and also happens to be my wife. Sushma, has poured her being into these schools and everything they are is a reflection of her take on what fantastic education means.
